Step-by-Step Programming Instructions:
For Ford Edge models equipped with the remote head key system, follow these steps to add a new key:
1. Ensure you have two previously programmed keys and the new unprogrammed key accessible. If you lack two programmed keys, contact a locksmith to cut and program a second key.
2. Insert the first previously programmed key into the ignition.
3. Turn the ignition from off to on and keep it on for at least three seconds, but no more than 10 seconds.
4. Switch the ignition off and remove the first programmed key.
5. Within three seconds but no more than 10 seconds after turning off the ignition, insert the second previously programmed key and turn the ignition to the on position.
6. Again, keep the ignition on for at least three seconds, but no more than 10 seconds.
7. Switch the ignition off and remove the second previously programmed key.
8. Within three seconds but no more than 10 seconds after turning off the ignition and removing the previously programmed key, insert the new unprogrammed key.
9. Turn the ignition from off to on and keep it on for at least six seconds.
10. Remove the newly programmed key from the ignition. If successfully programmed, it will start the engine and operate the remote entry system. If not successful, wait 10 seconds and repeat Steps 1 through 8.
If you only have one working remote/key and want to add a second key, you need to purchase a programmer. If you have no working keys, locate a locksmith in your area.
For Ford Edge models with the smart key system:
1. Ensure you have two previously programmed smart keys inside the vehicle and the new unprogrammed smart key readily accessible.
2. Place the new unprogrammed smart key in the pocket inside the center console.
3. Press the driver or passenger power door unlock control three times.
4. Press and release the brake pedal one time.
5. Press the driver or passenger power door lock control three times.
6. Press and release the brake pedal one time. The indicator on the Start/Stop button should begin to rapidly flash, indicating that programming mode has been entered and two programmed smart keys have been detected in the vehicle.
7. Within one minute, press the start/stop button. If four Intelligent Access Keys have already been programmed to your vehicle, the message “MAX # OF FOBS LEARNED” will be displayed on the message center.
8. Remove the smart key from the center console pocket and press the UNLOCK or Lock control on the newly programmed smart key to exit programming mode.
9. Verify that the remote entry functions operate (lock, unlock) and that the vehicle starts with the new smart key. If the smart key has been successfully programmed, it can be used to activate the smart key with the push-button start feature and start your vehicle.
