If you need to add a key to your Transit, follow the instructions based on whether it has a flip key system or a smart key system:

**For Transit with Flip Key System:**

1. Insert the first previously programmed key into the ignition.
2. Switch the ignition from off to on. Keep the ignition on for at least three seconds, but no more than 10 seconds.
3. Switch the ignition off and remove the first programmed key from the ignition.
4. After three seconds but within 10 seconds of switching the ignition off, insert the second previously programmed key into the ignition.
5. Switch the ignition from off to on. Keep the ignition on for at least three seconds, but no more than 10 seconds.
6. Switch the ignition off and remove the second previously programmed key from the ignition.
7. After three seconds but within 10 seconds of switching the ignition off and removing the previously programmed key, insert the new unprogrammed key into the ignition.
8. Switch the ignition from off to on. Keep the ignition on for at least six seconds.
9. Remove the newly programmed key from the ignition. If successful, it will start the engine and operate the remote entry system. If unsuccessful, wait 10 seconds and repeat Steps 1 through 8.

For Transit with Smart Key System:

1. Close all doors and keep them closed throughout the procedure.
2. Ensure the ignition is off.
3. Remove the key blade from the bottom of the smart key.
4. Remove the rubber mat from the bottom of the cupholder.
5. Place the first programmed smart key in the bottom of the cupholder with buttons facing upward.
6. Press the push button ignition switch.
7. Wait 5 seconds.
8. Press the push button ignition switch again.
9. Remove the first smart key.
10. Within 10 seconds, place the second programmed smart key in the bottom of the cupholder with buttons facing upward.
11. Press the push button ignition switch.
12. Wait five seconds.
13. Push the push button ignition switch again.
14. Remove the second programmed key.
15. Within 10 seconds, place the new unprogrammed smart key in the bottom of the cupholder with buttons facing upward.
16. Press the push button ignition switch. Remove the smart key from the cupholder and test its functions. To program additional smart keys, wait 20 seconds and repeat the steps.
