To program your Ford Escape with the remote/key combo:

1. Ensure you have two previously programmed keys and the new unprogrammed key readily accessible. If not, contact a Locksmith to cut and program a second key.

2. Insert the first previously programmed key into the ignition.

3. Turn the ignition from off to on and keep it on for at least three seconds, but no more than 10 seconds.

4. Switch the ignition off and remove the first programmed key.

9. Turn the ignition from off to on and keep it on for at least six seconds.

10. Remove the newly programmed key from the ignition. If successfully programmed, it will start the engine and operate the remote entry system (if the new key is an integrated keyhead transmitter). If not, wait 10 seconds and repeat Steps 1 through 8.

For Ford Escape models with the smart key system:

1. Ensure you have two previously programmed smart keys inside the vehicle and the new unprogrammed smart key readily accessible.

2. Place the first programmed intelligent access key in the middle of the tray.

3. Press the push button ignition switch, wait five seconds, and then press it again.

4. Remove the intelligent access key.

5. Within 10 seconds, place a second programmed intelligent access key in the middle of the tray.

6. Press the push button ignition switch, wait five seconds, and then press it again.

7. Remove the intelligent access key.

8. Within 10 seconds, place the unprogrammed intelligent access key in the middle of the tray.

9. Press the push button ignition switch and keep the ignition on for at least six seconds.

10. Remove the newly programmed intelligent access key.

Programming is now complete. Check that the remote control functions operate and your vehicle starts with the new intelligent access key. If programming was unsuccessful, wait 10 seconds and repeat steps 1 through 10.
