Step-by-Step Programming Instructions:

If your Suburban has a separate key and remote, it cannot be programmed onboard and requires a qualified professional. Follow these steps:

1. Find an automotive locksmith in your area using the provided website.
2. If your vehicle is still mobile, consider driving to the locksmith to save money.
3. The locksmith will use specialized computer equipment to program the smart key remote fob.

Programming with a Recognized Transmitter (Keyless Access Vehicles Only):
A new transmitter can be programmed when there is one recognized transmitter. Follow these steps:

1. Remove the key from the recognized transmitter.
2. Place the recognized transmitter(s) in the cup holder or passenger seat.
3. Insert the vehicle key into the key lock cylinder on the driver door handle and turn it counterclockwise to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. The Driver Information Center (DIC) displays “READY FOR REMOTE #2, 3, 4, etc.”
4. Place the new transmitter in the transmitter pocket/insert located in the center console storage area.
5. Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. When the transmitter is learned, the DIC display will indicate readiness to program the next transmitter.
6. Remove the transmitter from the pocket and press unlock or lock. To program additional transmitters, repeat Steps 4–6. When all additional transmitters are programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for approximately 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
7. Return the key to the transmitter.

Programming without a Recognized Transmitter (Keyless Access Vehicles Only):
If there are no recognized transmitters available, follow this procedure to program up to eight transmitters:

1. Remove the vehicle key from the transmitter.
2. Insert the vehicle key into the key lock cylinder on the driver door handle and turn it counterclockwise to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. The DIC displays “REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.”
3. Wait for 10 minutes until the DIC displays “PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN,” then press the ENGINE START/STOP button.
4. Repeat Step 3 two additional times. After the third time, all previously known transmitters will no longer work with the vehicle.
5. Place the new transmitter in the transmitter pocket/insert.
6. Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. When the transmitter is learned, the DIC display will show readiness to program the next transmitter.
7. Remove the transmitter from the pocket and press unlock or lock. To program additional transmitters, repeat Steps 5–7. When all additional transmitters are programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for approximately 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
8. Return the key to the transmitter.
