Step-by-Step Programming Instructions:

For Ford Taurus models with the remote/key combo system, follow these steps to program a new key:

1. Ensure you have two previously programmed keys and the new unprogrammed key accessible. If you only have one working key, you’ll need assistance from a Locksmith to program a second key with special equipment, or you can purchase a programmer.
2. Insert the first previously programmed key into the ignition and switch it from off to on. Keep the ignition on for at least three seconds, but no longer than 10 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition off and remove the first programmed key.
4. Within 10 seconds of turning off the ignition, insert the second previously programmed key and switch the ignition from off to on. Keep the ignition on for at least three seconds, but no more than 10 seconds.
5. Turn the ignition off and remove the second programmed key.
6. Within 10 seconds of turning off the ignition and removing the second programmed key, insert the new unprogrammed key into the ignition.
7. Switch the ignition from off to on and maintain the ignition on for at least six seconds.
8. Remove the newly programmed key from the ignition. If successfully programmed, the key will start the engine and operate the remote entry system if applicable. If not successful, wait 10 seconds and repeat Steps 1 through 8.

For Ford Taurus models with the smart key system, adhere to the following instructions:

– You can program a maximum of four smart keys to your vehicle.
– Ensure you have two previously programmed keys and the new unprogrammed key accessible. If you lack two previously programmed keys, you’ll need a Locksmith to cut and program a second key.
– Ensure the vehicle is off before starting the procedure. Also, ensure all doors are closed throughout the procedure.
– Perform this procedure exactly as described and within 30 seconds of starting the sequence. If any steps are performed out of sequence, stop and wait for at least one minute before starting again.
– Place the new unprogrammed Smart Key in the pocket inside the center console utility compartment.
– Press the driver or passenger power door unlock control three times.
– Press and release the brake pedal once.
– Press the driver or passenger power door lock control three times.
– Press and release the brake pedal once. The indicator on the Start/Stop button should rapidly flash, indicating programming mode has been entered and two programmed Smart Keys have been detected.
– Within one minute, press the start/stop button. A message will indicate that the new Smart Key was programmed. If four Smart Keys have been programmed, a message indicating “MAX # OF KEYS LEARNED” will be displayed.
– Remove the Smart Key from the utility compartment pocket and press the lock or unlock control on the newly programmed Smart Keys to exit programming mode.
– Verify that the remote entry functions operate (lock, unlock) and that the vehicle starts with the new Smart Key.
