Step-by-Step Programming Instructions:

If you find yourself without any working keys, you won’t be able to program a new key yourself. Here are your options:

1. Preferred Option: Call a mobile Automotive Locksmith to visit your vehicle and create a new key. The Locksmith will then connect a special computer to your vehicle to program the new key.

2. Alternatively, you can tow your vehicle to a Dealership. They’ll create a new key for you and then connect a special computer to your vehicle to program it.

Now, if you have just one working key, unfortunately, you can’t program a second key yourself. Here are your options:

1. Preferred Option: Contact or visit an Automotive Locksmith, and they will connect a special computer to your vehicle to program the second key.

2. Visit a Dealership, where they’ll also use a special computer to program the second key.

However, if you have two working keys, you can indeed program a third key yourself. Here’s how:

For a 1996 Mustang GT & Cobra Only:

1. After having a Locksmith cut the transponder key, insert the new key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position (as far as it can go without cranking the engine). The security light on the dash will flash for fifteen minutes.

2. When the security light stops flashing, turn the ignition OFF then back to the ON position. The security light will flash for fifteen more minutes.

3. Repeat step 2: turning the ignition OFF then back to the ON position, and wait for the security light to flash for another fifteen minutes.

4. After the security light stops flashing the third time, turn the key to the OFF position. Then turn the key to the ON position again, and the security light should stop flashing, indicating the new key has been programmed.

5. Start the vehicle to test the key.

For programming a second key if you have one working key:

1. Insert the existing working key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position, then back to the OFF position.

2. Within 5 seconds, insert the new key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position. The security light will light up for 2 seconds to indicate successful programming. Turn the key to the OFF position.

3. Start the vehicle to test the new key.
