Step-by-Step Programming Instructions:

If your Highlander has a Standard Chip Key, you can follow these instructions to program it:

1. Enter the vehicle and close all doors.
2. Insert the master Toyota key into and out of the ignition cylinder 4 times. On the 5th time, leave the master key in the ignition cylinder.
3. Open and close the driver’s side door 6 times.
4. Remove the master key from the ignition cylinder. Verify that the security light on the information display is solid, indicating that the car successfully entered programming mode.
5. Insert the new transponder chip key.
6. Watch the security light blinking for about 60 seconds.
7. When the security light goes out, your new key should be successfully programmed.
8. Remove the new key from the ignition cylinder.
9. To verify that your new key is able to deactivate the anti-theft system, check if the security indicator light on the information display disappears when inserting the properly programmed key into the ignition cylinder.
10. If programming is unsuccessful, start over at step 1.

If your Highlander has Push Button Start Ignition, it is not onboard programmable and requires specialized equipment or a qualified professional to program smart key remote fobs. Your options include locating an automotive locksmith in your area through LocateALocksmith.com.
