How to Program a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix Ignition Chip Key Transponder

Step-by-Step Programming Instructions:

Please note that these programming procedures are only applicable for vehicles built in the USA.

Can I program a new key myself if I have no working keys?
Yes, you can. Once you have had the new key cut by a locksmith, follow these instructions:

1. Insert the new key into the ignition cylinder and turn it to the ON position (as far as you can go without cranking the engine). The security light on the dashboard will illuminate and stay on for ten minutes. When the security light goes out, you have one minute to start the next step.
2. Turn the ignition cylinder to OFF and then back to the ON position. The security light on the dashboard will illuminate and stay on for ten more minutes. When the security light goes out, you have one minute to start the next step.
3. Turn the ignition cylinder to OFF and then back to the ON position. The security light on the dashboard will illuminate and stay on for ten more minutes.
4. After the security light has gone off for the third time, turn the key off and remove it from the ignition. The key is now programmed, and all other keys have been erased.
5. Insert the key and start the vehicle to test the key.

Can I program a duplicate key for this vehicle?
Yes, you can. Once you have had the new key cut by a locksmith, follow these instructions:

1. Insert an existing programmed working key into the ignition cylinder.
2. Turn the ignition to the ON position and then back to OFF.
3. Remove the existing key and, within 10 seconds, insert the new key and turn it to the ON position.
4. The security light will light up for 2 seconds to indicate successful programming of the additional key. Remove the key from the ignition.
5. Insert the key and start the vehicle to test the key.
