How to Program a 2000 Ford Ranger Ignition Chip Key Transponder

Step by Step How to Programming Instructions:

The transponder system was exclusively on SHO & LS models in 1996. If you find yourself without any working keys, you can still program a new key yourself by following these steps:

1. Insert the new key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position (without cranking the engine). The security light on the dashboard will flash for fifteen minutes.
2. When the security light stops flashing, turn the ignition OFF and then back to the ON position. The security light will flash for another fifteen minutes.
3. Repeat step 2: When the security light stops flashing again, turn the ignition OFF and then back to the ON position. The security light will flash for fifteen more minutes.
4. After the security light stops flashing for the third time, turn the key to the OFF position. Turn it back to the ON position, and the security light should stop flashing, indicating that the new key has been programmed.
5. Start the vehicle to test the new key.

Can you program a second key yourself if you have one working key? Yes, you can. Follow these steps:

1. Insert the existing working key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position, then back to the OFF position.
2. Within five seconds, insert the new key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position. The security light will illuminate for two seconds to indicate successful programming. Then, turn the key to the OFF position.
3. Start the vehicle to test the new key.
