How to Program a 1999 Mercury Mystique LS Ignition Chip Key Transponder

Step by Step How to Programming Instructions:

When adding a new transmitter to your vehicle alongside two recognized ones, follow these steps:

1. Start with the vehicle off and gather all transmitters, old and new. Remove the key lock cylinder cap on the driver door handle and place the recognized transmitters in the cupholder.

2. Insert the vehicle key into the key lock cylinder on the driver door handle and turn it counterclockwise to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display “READY FOR REMOTE #2, 3, 4, ETC.”

3. Place the new transmitter into the cupholder.

4. Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. Once the transmitter is learned, the DIC will indicate readiness to program the next transmitter.

5. Remove the transmitter from the cupholder and press UNLOCK or LOCK on it. To program more transmitters, repeat steps 3–5. Once all additional transmitters are programmed, press and hold ENGINE START/STOP for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.

6. Put the key back into the transmitter.

If you don’t have two recognized transmitters available, follow these steps to program up to eight transmitters:

1. Start with the vehicle off and all transmitters you want to program with you. Remove the key lock cylinder cap on the driver door handle.

2. Insert the vehicle key into the key lock cylinder on the driver door handle and turn it counterclockwise to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. The DIC will display “REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.”

3. Wait for 10 minutes until the DIC displays “PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN,” then press ENGINE START/STOP. The DIC will again show “REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.”

4. Repeat step 2 two additional times. After the third time, all previously known transmitters won’t work with the vehicle, and remaining transmitters can be relearned.

5. The DIC should now display “READY FOR REMOTE #1.” Place the new transmitter into the cupholder.

6. Press ENGINE START/STOP. When the transmitter is learned, the DIC will indicate readiness to program the next transmitter.

7. Remove the transmitter from the cupholder and press UNLOCK or LOCK on it. To program more transmitters, repeat steps 5–6. Once all additional transmitters are programmed, press and hold ENGINE START/STOP for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.

8. Put the key back into the transmitter.
