How to Program a 1996 Ford Taurus Ignition Chip Key Transponder

Step by Step How to Programming Instructions:

1. Begin by getting the key cut by a locksmith and having two working keys ready. If you only have one working key, you’ll need the locksmith to program a second key using special equipment.
2. Insert one of the existing working keys into the ignition cylinder.
3. Turn the ignition cylinder to the ON (RUN) position and then back to OFF.
4. Remove the existing working key. Within five seconds, insert the second working key and turn it to the ON (RUN) position, then back to OFF.
5. Remove the second working key and insert the new key before ten seconds have passed. Turn it to the ON (RUN) position, leaving it there for one second, and then turn it back to OFF.
6. The security light will illuminate for three seconds, indicating that the new key has been successfully programmed.

Note: This procedure only programs the remote portion of the key/remote.

Additional steps for programming the remote:

1. Close all doors. Then, open the driver’s door and press the UNLOCK button on the driver’s door panel while the door is open. Insert the key into the ignition.
2. Turn the ignition from OFF to RUN eight times within ten seconds, with the eighth time ending in the RUN position. The door locks will cycle to confirm programming mode.
3. Within twenty seconds, press any button on the first keyless remote. The door locks will cycle again to confirm programming.
4. Within twenty seconds, press any button on the second keyless remote. The door locks will cycle once more to confirm programming.
5. Turn the ignition to OFF. The locks will cycle again to indicate the end of the programming mode.
