How to Program a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer Ignition Chip Key Transponder

Step by Step How to Programming Instructions:

When there are two recognized transmitters, follow these steps to program a new one to the vehicle:

1. Ensure the vehicle is turned off, and have all transmitters, both currently recognized and the new one, with you.

2. Place the two recognized transmitters in the rear cupholder in the center console.

3. Remove the key lock cylinder cap on the driver door handle. Insert the key of the new transmitter into the lock cylinder and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display “READY FOR REMOTE #2, 3, 4, or 5, 6, 7, or 8”.

4. Replace one of the recognized transmitters with the new one in the rear cupholder.

5. Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. When the transmitter is learned, the DIC will indicate readiness to program the next transmitter.

6. Remove the transmitter from the cupholder and press Lock or Unlock. To program additional transmitters, repeat steps 4 through 6.

7. Once all additional transmitters are programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for twelve seconds to exit programming mode.

If there are no currently recognized transmitters available, follow this procedure to program up to eight transmitters. This feature is not available in Canada. This procedure takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. Ensure the vehicle is turned off and all transmitters to be programmed are with you.

1. Remove the key lock cylinder cap on the driver door handle. Insert the key of the transmitter into the lock cylinder and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. The DIC will display “REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT”.

2. Wait for 10 minutes until the DIC displays “PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN”, then press ENGINE START/STOP. The DIC will again show “REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT”.

3. Repeat step 2 two additional times. After the third time, all previously known transmitters will no longer work with the vehicle. The DIC should now display “READY FOR REMOTE #1”.

4. Place the new transmitter into the rear cupholder in the center console.

5. Press ENGINE START/STOP. When the transmitter is learned, the DIC will indicate readiness to program the next transmitter.

6. Remove the transmitter from the cupholder and press Lock or Unlock. To program additional transmitters, repeat steps 4 through 6.

7. Once all additional transmitters are programmed, press and hold ENGINE START/STOP for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
