Follow these instructions if your Ford Edge is equipped with the remote head key system. You’ll need two previously programmed keys and the new unprogrammed key readily accessible. If you lack two previously programmed keys, a locksmith is required to cut and program a second key.

1. Insert the first previously programmed key into the ignition.
2. Switch the ignition from off to on. Keep the ignition on for at least three seconds but no more than ten seconds.
3. Switch the ignition off and remove the first programmed key.
4. After three seconds but within ten seconds of switching the ignition off, insert the second previously programmed key into the ignition.
5. Switch the ignition from off to on. Keep the ignition on for at least three seconds but no more than ten seconds.

9. Remove the newly programmed key from the ignition. If the key has been successfully programmed, it will start the engine and operate the remote entry system (if the new key is an integrated key head transmitter). If programming was not successful, wait 10 seconds and repeat Steps 1 through 8.

Note: A maximum of four smart keys can be programmed to your vehicle. If you want to replace a previously programmed smart key with a new smart key, or if you already have four smart keys programmed to your vehicle, you must contact a locksmith to erase and reprogram them. Ensure the vehicle is off before starting this procedure. Ensure all doors are closed before beginning and remain closed throughout the procedure. Perform the steps exactly as described below, and complete all steps within 30 seconds of starting the sequence. 1. Open the floor console storage compartment lid. With the buttons facing the rear of your vehicle and the key ring up, place the intelligent access key into the backup slot.
2. With the buttons facing the rear of your vehicle and the key ring up, place the smart key into the backup slot.
3. Press the push-button ignition switch.
4. Wait five seconds and then press the push-button ignition switch again.
5. Remove the smart key.
6. Within ten seconds, place a second programmed smart key in the backup slot and press the push-button ignition switch.
7. Wait five seconds and then press the push-button ignition switch again.
8. Remove the smart key.
9. Wait five seconds, then place the unprogrammed smart key in the backup slot and press the push-button ignition switch. Programming is now complete. Check that the remote control functions operate and your vehicle starts with the new smart key. If programming was unsuccessful, wait 10 seconds and repeat Steps 1 through 7.
